Far Eastern Painting - Painting of Korea - Goryeo Paint Impasto contemporary Tomb Korean Painting - History

The history of Korean painting dates from the first sketches painted on the surface of the Goryeo Dynasty tomb in the fourth century. However, there is ample evidence for the beginning of Korean painting is in 108 CE. Fortunately, a number of Korean artists and painters have contributed to the preservation of this traditional genre and art. However, much of the innovation has been mixed in the Korean art through modern motifs and themes. Korean painter traveled extensively to study the works of the masters of painting. China, being the center of the various facets of art during that time, attracted the attention of a large number of artists. Korean painters were also sent to China, and that is why China's influence in the Korean art. Types of Korean Paintings

Popular Korean paintings belong to the Chosun or Joseon or Choson era, a period that saw the decline of Buddhist culture in Korea. It is a Herculean task to classify the Korean-style paintings. Painting of Korea has two main branches:

Korean painting styles

In a very broad scale, the forms of Korean painting can be divided into the following groups:

or landscape painting: This style of painting is often known as the School of Landscape 'realistic. "It is a landscape design practice based on realistic scenarios. During the mid-Chosun period, many painters looking through the beautiful countryside in search of scenes from the painting.

Painting or Genre: while the landscape paintings of Korea dealt with the transfer of the scenes of nature on the canvas, the art of Gender was all about painting ordinary people and scenes of everyday life. Four plants or Clemente: Clemente's four plants, also known as the four floors of chivalry, often painted in Korea, is plum blossoms, chrysanthemums, orchids or wild orchids, and bamboo. Originally, these motives were Confucian symbols belonging to the four key qualities of an educated man. However, now used to represent the four seasons.

Portrait: portraits were painted, but throughout the history of Korean painting, however, like other Korean painting that also plays its climax in the Chosun era. Its main themes include the monarch, senior officials, subjects deserving the literati or aristocrats, Buddhist monks, and women.

Paintings of Korea have thick strokes, a stiff brush on large canvases with gravel or coarse textured handmade papers.
